Welcome to Chronic Relief, an on-line guide to medical cannabis (marijuana) for the terminally and chronically ill! If you are sick or suffering, or caring for someone who is, this site is for you.
Our goal is to help you by providing science-based information about the therapeutic benefits of cannabis, and ongoing advances in cannabis science while at the same time bringing science and reason to the forefront of our national conversation about cannabis.
This website is a work in progress and a true labor of love. After seeing the relief cannabis provided my mother at the end of her battle with lung cancer, I have been inspired to build this website so that others just like me, might have the benefit of my mother’s experience and our learning. We thought cannabis would help with my mom’s nausea… and we would have been thrilled with that. Thankfully, it did much more for her.
The benefits she experienced included:
- increased effectiveness of her opiate drugs
- reduction in her neuropathic pain
- controlled nausea and vomiting
- reduced agitation and anxiousness
- stimulated appetite
- allowed her to be present in the precious days before her passing
The learning curve for me to understand what is medical marijuana and how to use it was steep. There were so many questions for which we didn’t have answers like – How do we get it? What do we ask for? And, what do we do with it once we have it?
Information About Therapeutic Benefits of Cannabis
An immense body of information exists about the therapeutic benefits of cannabis. At the time of writing this page, a Google search of the word marijuana returned 121 million results and the word cannabis returned 68 million. That is a tremendous amount of information for someone to wade through – especially if they are fighting for their life or caring for someone who is. Chronic Relief aims to distill this sea of information for you so you don’t have to wade through all the B.S. like we did. We want you to have access to the basics about medical cannabis quickly and easily. That includes access to on-topic links, videos, other websites and research papers should you desire to dig deeper.
Here are just a few things I have discovered along the way. Cannabis is:
- one of the most pharmacologically active plants on the planet
- is one of the safest medicines – safer than aspirin
- less addictive than caffeine
- well tolerated by a wide majority of the population
- components of cannabis have been scientifically proven to selectively kill certain types of cancer cells
Cannabis Is Illegal Under Federal Law
While not a cure all, cannabis is a legitimate medicine that holds great promise for not only providing chronic pain relief and relief for other chronic symptoms, but it also holds great promise for changing disease progression for certain illnesses.
Possession of cannabis is illegal under federal law – but talking about it is NOT. Twenty states and the District of Columbia now have medical marijuana laws. More and more people are coming to understand that cannabis is NOT the evil drug we have been led to believe. In fact, the body of evidence to support its efficacy as a safe and versatile medicine is growing rapidly.
The Goal of Chronic Relief
My intent with this project is to help make such evidence readily available to those who need it in a way that is easy to find and understand. In so doing, I hope to bring science to the forefront of our conversations about cannabis, eliminating any shame or need for discretion associated with the use, discussion or advocacy of cannabis.
Our site is packed full of links to the best content on the web. Should you find something that we have not included that would be a good fit for this site, please send it our way at lane@mychronicrelief.com. Your input and feedback is greatly appreciated.
Chronic Relief is NOT about getting high! It is about getting RELIEF! And, helping as many people as possible live better and die more comfortably!
